Santa Paula funeral home

Sitting area at Funeraria Del Angel Santa PaulaOur dedicated, bilingual staff will help you plan quality funeral arrangements, cremations and memorable services that celebrate life. With a focus on personal service, we offer families the opportunity to honor their loved ones according to their traditions.

Our Santa Paula funeral home services provide your family with different ways to remember your loved one's life. We offer traditional visitations—with or without a casket—standard visitation hours and all-night visitation options.

In addition, Santa Paula families may choose to have visitations, burials, cremations or memorials at our chapel or a church or cemetery of your choice. If your family is nondenominational or nonreligious, we also offer celebrant-led services. All of our cremations are performed on site, and you may also inter a loved one's urn in a niche. Throughout the process, we recognize, understand and embrace cultural diversity and uniqueness.

Custom options

Funeraria del Angel Santa Paula believes each life is unique and offers custom funeral service options that represent that uniqueness. Your family may customize guest register books, memorial folders, prayer cards, thank-you notes and bookmarks with a color photo and favorite prayer, poem or song lyrics. Other service options include DVDs that play photographs on flat-screen TVs.

In keeping with Hispanic funeral customs, we accommodate extended visitations. Families who wish to host a visitation that lasts late into the night or even overnight may do so. We also arrange an in-home visitation at no additional charge.

History

Funeraria del Angel Santa Paula funeral home—formally Stetler Mortuary—is located in Santa Paula, California, and was founded in 1956. Robert A. Stetler Sr. founded the family-owned and -operated funeral home to serve Santa Paula nearby communities, such as Piru and Fillmore, with their cremation and funeral needs. Our caring staff looks forward to continuing our legacy of care while providing you comfort and compassion.

History of Santa Paula, California

The city of Santa Paula was originally inhabited by the Chumash, a Native American people. In the late 1700s, Franciscan missionaries began to occupy the area and later established the San Buenaventura Mission. Santa Paula takes its name from the Catholic Saint Paula.

In 1872, Nathan Weston Blanchard purchased 2,700 acres in the Santa Paula area. By 1874, he planted orange tree seedlings that created the town’s landscape. Santa Paula was also among the early centers of California’s petroleum industry. The discovery of oil further helped grow Santa Paula’s economic diversity.

Honoring our community

In March 1928, the city of Santa Paula was devastated by the collapse of the St. Francis Dam. Considered among the worst disasters in California's history, the subsequent flood waters took the lives of hundreds of people who called the Santa Clara River Valley home. Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery buried 54 victims caused by the flood alone. A memorial at the cemetery still stands today to honor and remember the victims who lost their lives in the flood.

Santa Paula also made a name for itself in the early days of the film industry, with Gaston Melies bringing his film company to the city in 1911. Today, a number of film companies continue to use Santa Paula as a backdrop for their commercials, television shows and movies.

We are proud of our rich heritage and continue to serve the Santa Paula community with dignity and respect.
